Springfield police are investigating after a report of shots fired and then a wounded person showing up later at the hospital.

Officers were dispatched around 10:10 p.m. on Monday to the area of Euclid and Linden avenues in reference to a possible shots fired call, and to Springfield Regional Medical Center in case the injured victim showed up, according to a Springfield police report.

Police did not find anything when they arrived, but shortly determined the incident actually took place at the intersection of East Liberty Street and Linden Avenue where they found broken glass and five 380 shell casings.

Police attempted to talk to several people that were outside, but they were uncooperative.

“Dispatch advised that an anonymous caller stated the victim was driving a black Buick at the time of the incident. At this time, I observed a black Buick parked in front of (a residence) on Linden Avenue with four gun shot holes on the driver’s door and the rear driver window had been shot out,” the report said.

The anonymous caller also said the victim possibly suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

“Dispatch advised that a male had arrived at SRMC by way of personal vehicle. (Victim) appeared to have been struck in the left side of his head with a piece of glass from the car window when it was broken out,” the report said.

The victim was treated for minor injuries and released but did not talk to officers about the incident.

No suspect information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation.
