Springfield car fire leads to arson investigation, search for man reportedly leaving scene

Springfield police and fire are investigating a car fire they suspect to be a case of arson, according to a Springfield police report.

Police began their investigation Thursday morning at around 3 a.m. when they responded to the fire in the 1300 block of Linden Avenue, according to the report.

“The fire department was already on scene and had the fire contained,” the report says. “The vehicle was found to be a black 2007 Chevy Avalanche. The vehicle sustained heavy fire damage on the front end. The paint on the front end was burned off.”

The person who reported the fire said he saw a man run away from the scene, the report says, but officers were not able to locate anyone matching the description in the area.

The case is still being investigated, according to the report.
