Sheriff’s office awaiting autopsy results in death investigation

Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate the death of a Springfield man who died on Independence Day.

Todd Griffith, 50, 0f 3706 Snyder-Dome Road, died Friday evening.

German Twp. medics and Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about 8 p.m. Friday that a fight had broken out at the IOOF Campgrounds and that Griffith was on the ground and not breathing.

Deputies then initiated a death investigation and set up a crime scene, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.

The sheriff’s office didn’t release any information Monday about suspects involved or accounts from witnesses.

One neighbor of Griffith who talked to the Springfield News-Sun but wished to remain anonymous said she saw the altercation that ended in his death. She said Griffith had a fight with a female friend and she choked him.

The sheriff’s office wouldn’t comment on those allegations.

Griffith’s family couldn’t be reached for comment on Monday.

The sheriff’s office and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations continue to work on the case.

They won’t release any more information until the coroner completes an autopsy on Griffith, according to Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly.
