Report: Suspects make victims get on ground during armed robbery in Springfield

Two people were robbed at gunpoint over the weekend in the area of Cypress Street and East Southern Avenue.

Springfield police responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of Selma Road regarding a robbery with a gun, according to a police report.

When officers arrived, they spoke with two victims who said that they were just robbed at gunpoint while walking on East Southern Avenue.

The victims said they noticed two unknown males following them for a short time before they approach them from behind.

“Suspect 2 pointed a black semi-auto handgun at them and told them to lay down. He then asked, ‘Where’s the money?’” the report says. “While the victims were laying down in the grass, each thief took their turn going through their pockets.”

The suspects stole one victim’s wallet, which contained his ID card, social security card, birth certificate and cash. They stole the other victim’s ID card, bank card and food stamp card.

“Both suspects then fled on foot westbound on East Southern Avenue,” the report says.

One of the two thieves was described as 5-foot, 5-inches tall, 120 pounds, skinny build and wearing a gray hoodie and black or blue jeans. The second thief is described as 5-foot, 5-inches tall, 140 pounds, and wearing a burgundy hoodie.

No other suspect information was available, and no arrests have been made.

Springfield officers continue their investigation into the armed robbery.
