Police investigating vandalism at Springfield business

Police are investigating an incident of vandalism after a Springfield restaurant was spray painted on Sunday night or early Monday morning.

One of the owners of Speakeasy Ramen, located at 365 Ludlow Ave. in Springfield, called to report the vandalism around 10 a.m. on Monday.

The owner told Springfield Police that sometime between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 10 a.m. on Monday, “unknown suspect(s) sprayed graffiti on the east side of the business,” a police report on the incident said.

“(The owner) stated the spray paint is orange and was sprayed on the east front door and on the large plate glass east window,” the report said.

According to the report, police have no information on the suspect who spray painted the building; no one witnessed the vandalism.

The Springfield News-Sun reached out to Speakeasy Ramen for more information about the vandalism but did not receive a response.

However, Speakeasy Ramen posted a photo of the spray painted windows on their Facebook page on Monday morning with the caption, “Somebody tagged the front of our building last night or early morning with orange spray paint.”

Tagging is defined as the repeated use of a single symbol or series of symbols to mark territory, according to Encyclopedia Britannica’s website. In order to attract the most attention possible, tags usually appear strategically or centrally located neighborhoods.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the restaurant appears to have removed the spray paint.

Springfield Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
