Couple sentenced in insurance fraud

A Cable couple has been sentenced to prison after state agents investigated an insurance fraud case.

Tony Pelfrey received a suspended 12-month jail sentence while Patricia Pelfrey received 10 months of suspended jail time. They both also received three years of probation and were ordered to complete 75 hours of community service, according to information from the Ohio Department of Insurance.

An investigation by the department and the Champaign County Prosecutor’s Office reportedly showed they submitted false information to support a loss they claimed was more than $2,400 involving their air conditioning system.

In May, Tony Pelfrey pleaded guilty to felony insurance fraud while Patricia Pelfrey pleaded guilty to a felony charge of telecommunications fraud. They also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor attempted theft charges. STAFF REPORT
