The first floor of Springfield City Hall will reopen this month after being closed to the public last year as the area saw an uptick in coronavirus related cases.

City Hall’s first floor is the location of the city’s Utility Billing and Income Tax divisions and will be open to the public on March 15.

Access was restricted to the public in November due to coronavirus related trends at the time. However, City officials said in a recent news release that they decided to reopen the area to the public due to a decrease in coronavirus related cases and hospitalizations in the area as well as the availability of a vaccine.

Though that floor will be open to the public again, safety precautions will still be in place, said Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck.

“The safety of the public and our employees is our primary concern,” Heck said.

“We will continue with safety protocols as we reopen, and our goal is to reopen the rest of the building to the public in the near future,” he added.

The first floor will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Visitors are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing.

City staff will be required to sanitize their work stations in between interactions with the public.

Some residents may qualify for a private appointment for assistance in completing their tax returns and are instructed to call 937-324-7357 for more information.

Utility billing customers may pay their bills in person beginning March 15, by mail, online, or by deposit in one of the dropboxes on Fountain Avenue and at the Service Department on Lagonda Avenue or by calling 937-324-7365.
