Cooling centers open with heat advisory, warning in effect

Cooling centers are opening across the area as an excessive heat warning and a heat advisory are in effect through Sunday.

In Washington Twp.

The Washington Twp. Rec Center, 895 Washington-Centerville Road, is open and operating as a cooling center during normal business hours, according to the township.

Washington Rec Center hours:

  • Sunday: 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

In Vandalia

In Vandalia, two cooling centers are open:

In West Carrollton

  • West Carrollton Civic Center Lobby, 300 E. Central Avenue. It will remain open while the warning remains in effect.

In Springfield

  • Springfield Soup Kitchen, 830 W. Main Street: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

The Dayton metro area is under an Excessive Heat Warning and the rest of the area is under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. Sunday.

The heat index on Sunday is expected to be over 100 degrees.
