Springfield police are investigating after a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Officers were dispatched just before 11 p.m. on Monday to the Springfield Regional Medical Center in reference to a gunshot victim walking in, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, the victim was “being treated for a single gunshot wound to his right hand.”

Due to being treated, the victim was barely able to speak when police asked about the incident.

“SRMC staff advised that (the victim) had walking into the hospital and advised he had been shot in the hand. (The victim) said he was sitting in a vehicle with several other unknown people. All of a sudden they heard gun shots and then he felt pain in his hand. When he looked down, he saw he had been shot,” the report said.

The victim was later taken by ground transport to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment.
