The City of New Carlisle will host its holiday events this week.

The Christmas tree lighting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Main and Washington streets. Many of the local shops will also be open late.

City Mayor Mike Lowrey asks those who plan to attend the tree lighting to bring a Christmas ornament to place on the tree.

“We would love to see the tree filled with personalized ornaments that have a family name and year on them. It’s a great way for the community to build something beautiful together,” he said in a post on Facebook.

The 36th Annual Main Street Holiday Parade will then be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

On Saturday, Santa will arrive by plane at 9:30 a.m. Children and families are encouraged to watch him fly in at the Andy Barnhart Memorial Airport, 10639 Milton Carlisle Road.

The parade line up will also start at 9:30 a.m. at Madison and Main streets, then will travel to Lake Avenue and the firehouse.

After the parade, the Tecumseh Arrows Marching Band will perform a mini concert and there will be a visit with Santa and costume contest.

Families can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as enjoy cookies and juice, at 315. N. Church St.

For the costume contest, kids will need to participate in costume and walk in the parade. There will be judging for the best holiday and storybook costumes, and three prizes will be awarded to the winners.
