Increased military planes expected in air over Miami Valley

An Air Force special operations wing will be flying night training exercises in the Miami Valley between Aug. 15-26, spokespersons say.

About 200 airmen with the Hurlburt Field, Fla.-based 1st Special Operations Wing are at Wright-Patterson flying the CV-22 Osprey, MC-130H Combat Talon, AC-130 Spooky and U-28 aircraft in the exercise dubbed “Olympus Archer,” according to 2nd Lt. Jacklyn Pienkowski, a unit spokeswoman.

“As far as we know, this is the first exercise of this scale out of Wright-Patterson for the 1st Special Operations Wing,” she said in an email. “We train in various, unfamiliar locations to afford our Airmen an opportunity to learn more from the exercises and gain new experiences they can apply in a real-world situation.”
