Yellow Springs teacher denies child sex charge

A Yellow Springs fourth-grade teacher pleaded not guilty and posted bond in Columbus on Saturday after being arraigned on a charge of pandering sexually oriented material.

The felony charge against Benjamin Trumbull, 48, of Columbus involves a file on a computer, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records. Yellow Springs Superintendent Mario Basora released a letter to parents on Friday saying, “It does not appear that any Yellow Springs School District students were depicted in any of the sexually-oriented matter allegedly found in the possession of Mr. Trumbull.”

Trumbull has been suspended from his job at Mills Lawn School and ordered to have no contact with students or staff, Basora’s letter said. District officials contacted parents of Trumbull’s students and will update parents when they have more information, Basora said in his letter.

Trumbull’s attorney could not be reached for comment after Trumbull’s appearance in Franklin County Municipal Court. Trumbull was released from the Franklin County Jail after posting bond of $35,085.

A preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 23.
