Woman denies stealing, cashing grandma’s checks

A 28-year-old woman pleaded not guilty Friday to charges that she cashed multiple checks she’s accused of stealing from her grandmother.

Danielle Nicole Burkhead was in the Clark County Jail on charges of theft and forgery. Bond was set at $5,000.

Burkhead’s grandmother contacted the sheriff’s office after she discovered 23 of her personal checks had unknowingly been written and cashed to her granddaughter, according to court records.

The checks were all cashed from December 2011 to March 2012 at Fifth Third Bank in Fairborn, according to records.

Suspicions arose when Burkhead ran out of the bank after a teller refused to cash one of her grandmother’s checks.
