Woman charged with murder in Springfield shooting

A woman faces additional charges in connection with a robbery-gone-wrong that left one Springfield man shot to death.

A grand jury has approved a charge of murder against Nicole Nicols, 32.

Mark Wells, 43, of Springfield, was shot and killed on July 18 in a botched robbery, police said. Wells, Nicols and Pete Gonzalez allegedly were all attempting to rob a man when a gun went off and killed Wells.

Gonzalez is booked in the Clark County Jail on murder and aggravated robbery charges.

Nicols had previously been indicted on charges of aggravated robbery in the death.

But further investigation into the case determined Nicols’ alleged role in planning the robbery that resulted in the death warranted a charge of murder, Sgt. Jeff Flores with the Springfield Police Division said.

Springfield police continue to investigate the case, he said, and expect more charges to be filed in the case.

Nicols is booked in the Clark County Jail on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to arraigned on the new charges in a common pleas court on Thursday.
