Woman charged in connection with teenager getting tattooed

A Springfield woman is charged in connection with a 16-year-old allegedly being tattooed illegally.

Cortnei Andrews, 26, is charged in Clark County Municipal Court with complicity to consent required to perform procedure on minor (tattooing on a minor). She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

She is alleged to have played a role in the tattooing of a teenager without her mother’s permission on June 18, 2017.

Michael Lee Murray, 30, was is also charged in connection with the tattooing. He is charged with one count of consent required to perform procedure (tattooing on a minor) in the Clark County Municipal Court, according to court documents.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and his bond was set at $250.

Murray reportedly met the teen with his girlfriend, Andrews, and tattooed the teen’s arm.

The girl’s mother, who did not give her permission to get the tattoo, discovered the tattoo and contacted the man’s girlfriend about the incident, according to court documents.

The girlfriend reportedly explained that she thought the teen was of age because she was friends with older people.

The affidavit says the mother felt the couple didn’t do enough research before inking her daughter.

“(The mother) stated that she felt both Mr. Murray and Ms. Andrews were reckless with regard to ascertaining (her daughter’s) age prior to giving her the tattoo,” the affidavit says.

Clark County deputies interviewed the teen who told them that she told her mother that she was going to hang out with friends but actually intended to get the tattoo.

“She stated that Cortnei picked her up in their red van and that Michael was in the vehicle with her,” the affidavit says.

The girl said they then drove to the couple’s house where the tattoo was completed, according to the affidavit. The girl also told authorities that the subject of her age never came up in any of the conversations between her and the couple.”
