Man charged in drug use case

Kevin L. Thomas, 34, of 10443 Township Road 258, North Lewisburg, was charged with drug abuse and possession of drug abuse instruments after a traffic stop in the 50 block of Tuttle Road on Thursday afternoon.

A Clark County sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle about 1:45 p.m. after a passerby flagged him down to report subjects in it “cooking something on a can with a lighter” in the Walmart parking lot.

Thomas was found unresponsive under a pile of clothing in the rear passenger seat and was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment. A needle suspected in heroin use was collected as evidence.

Arson suspected in car fire

Police were dispatched to a car fire about 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Edwards Drive.

It appeared something had been thrown through the sedan’s rear driver’s side window, according to a Springfield police report. Springfield fire crews extinguished the fire.

Thefts

A purse, cash and prescription pills valued at more than $680 were reported stolen during the burglary of a home in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Avenue between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

One hundred fifty assorted DVDs, valued at $1,500, were reported stolen during the burglary of a home in the 2100 block of Woodside Avenue between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 8:10 p.m. Thursday. A television screen was shattered.

A handgun and television, valued at $1,150, were reported stolen during the burglary of a home in the 1700 block of Memorial Drive between 10:30 a.m. Thursday and about midnight Friday.

A refrigerator and stove valued at $1,000 were reported stolen during the break-in of a vacant apartment at the Susnet Hills Apartments, 924 Sunset Ave., between 5 a.m. Wednesday and 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
