Suspects call themselves the ‘Knockout Boys’ before beating Springfield man, police say

Four teens attacked a man near the 2500 block of East Main Street, calling themselves the “Knockout Boys” before the beating, a Springfield police report says.

Springfield police responded to the Springfield Regional Medical Center on Thursday at around 2 a.m. to take a report of the assault, the report says.

“(The victim) stated that he attempted to fight back and may have struck one of them with a closed fist to the jaw,” the report says. “While he was attempting to protect himself they had struck him several times about the head and then kicked him in the ribs when he fell to the ground. The suspects took the victim’s cell phone and wallet from him.”

The victim said the teens fled after the beating, the report says.

“The victim had two small lacerations on his left hand,” the report says. “He also stated that his ribs hurt from where the suspects kicked him several times.”

The attack is still under investigation, the report says.
