Springfield woman pushed during burglary, report says

A Springfield woman says she was pushed after catching a suspect trying to break into her apartment.

Springfield police began their investigation when they were called to an apartment on East High Street Sunday at around 5 p.m., according to a Springfield police report. There, they spoke with a woman who said she was coming home when she spotted a man trying to get inside.

“The victim stated …. that when she arrived home today she saw a male attempting to gain access to her apartment. She stated … that she shouted at the unknown male and he became spooked,” the report says.

The woman said the man then tried to getaway.

“The victim stated … the male then shoved her and she almost fell down the stairs, and the male pushed past her and ran out of the building,” the report says. “The male then ran from the area eastbound towards E. Main Street. The victim stated that she tried to chase the male but lost him.”

It was soon after the police were called, the report says.

Police said there was not much suspect information the woman could provide but did say there was damage to her door and the doorknob.

Nothing was taken from the apartment, according to the report.

Springfield police are continuing to investigate but at this time no charges have been filed.
