The Springfield Police Division is investigating a robbery that took place at the Speedway on East Main Street.

Authorities began their investigation Sunday morning at around 4:30 a.m. when they were called to the gas station at 1314 E. Main St., according to a Springfield police report.

“(A store employee) stated that he was making coffee and noticed a tall subject wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, gloves and an orange face mask enter the store,” the report says. “(The employee) stated that the subject was in fact a male and had a small pocket knife and a can of pepper spray on him.”

The employee said the suspect told him to “give me the money and don’t try anything,” while holding the knife, according to the report.

“(The employee) stated that the suspect had a white bag with him and he used that to collect the money,” the report says. “(The employee) stated that after the suspect got the money, he fled on foot westbound out of the store.”

Officers checked the area but were unable to find the suspect, the report says. The report is light on the description of the suspect, only saying that he is a man taller than 6 feet.
