Springfield police investigating Tuesday bank robbery

A suspect in a Springfield bank robbery demanded “large bills” Tuesday morning and took off on foot.

Springfield police began their investigation Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m. at the IH Credit Union on West First Street. A police report says officers arrived after the robber left the store. They were able to speak with employees who witnessed the robbery.

The teller who was robbed told police she felt threatened by the man.

“She stated the unknown suspect entered the bank and showed her a handwritten note,” the report says. “She said the note told her to hand him ‘all the money in large bills.’” She said the suspect kept the note. She said the suspect also verbally told her to ‘not push any buttons and give him everything.’”

The teller told police that she gave him an undetermined amount of cash at which time the suspect fled on foot out of the bank.

“The suspect was wearing dark gloves, a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood cinched around his face and a dark knit toboggan,” the report says.

Springfield police could be seen outside the bank for an hour after the robbery. They appeared to be collecting evidence and gathering information.

Due to the lack of suspect information, no charges have been filed at this time.
