Springfield police are investigating several reports of shots fired from earlier this week on Heard Avenue.
Officers were dispatched around 10 a.m. on Tuesday to the 1200 block of Heard Avenue on the report of a front screen door window being shot out, according to a Springfield police report.
When police arrived, the victim told them he was sitting in his living room watching television with his front door open when the shots were fired.
“(Victim) stated he all of a sudden heard glass shattering and gunshots outside. (Victim) stated he immediately dove to the ground only to see a light-colored car driving eastbound on Heard Avenue” someone hanging out the window, the report said.
The victim said when he got up, he found his front door was shot at and his front screen door glass was shot out.
Officers then spoke with another victim who was inside the residence at the time of the shooting that said, “she was walking from the bathroom when the shots happened and came out to see glass on the floor,” the report said.
Police found several bullet strikes to the front of the house, the front and screen door that was struck, a projectile strike mark inside on a picture that was on the wall near where the victim was sitting, and at least eight shell casings of different calibers in the street, the report said.
There was also bullet strikes and damage to several other houses in the same block of Heard Avenue.
Officers spoke with another person that was working on an air conditioning unit at a house in the 1000 block.
“He stated that he heard four or five shots and he jumped back into his van,” the report said.
“He stated he saw a younger male sitting on the windowsill of a newer dark gray SUV on the passenger side, shooting a handgun. He stated that the male fired five or more rounds and then they left the area.”
Another victim from a different house in the 1000 block said she was in her living room when she heard several gunshots.
“She looked out the window and saw a male in the driver’s side back seat hanging out of the window with a gun,” the report said.
No other suspect or witness information was available.
Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
