Springfield police are investigating a New Year’s shots fired incident.

As people were celebrating the new year just after midnight, officers responded to the 800 block of Rodgers Drive in reference to shots fired.

When crews arrived, they spoke with the victim who said that he and his wife were in bed on the third level of their home when the incident happened around 12:05 a.m.

“One shot came through the window located at the back of the residence. Broken glass was scattered over the bed and floor,” the report says. “(The victim) then noticed a hole in the wall on the other side of the room. The round went through the window and struck the wall.”

Officers checked for other rounds or shell casings as “there were multiple calls of shots fired in the area and could be heard throughout the city.”

“The angle of the round through the window at the third level of the house may have been a stray round shot into the air,” the report says.

No other information was available and Springfield police continue their investigation into this shots fired incident.
