Springfield Police: Don’t Facebook message us emergencies

Springfield police reminded the community Monday afternoon that Facebook Messenger is not an approved way to alert authorities of emergencies.

The Facebook post said the policing agency has received numerous messages from the community, but the page isn’t monitored 24 hours a day.

“We have had recent postings involving missing children, loud music, domestic violence and reckless driving sent to us,” the post says. “These things cannot be handled through social media. These are examples of things that either 911 or the listed number would be utilized.”

Springfield police non-emergency number is 937-324-7680.
