Neighbors unsettled after man seriously injured in Springfield robbery

A man spent Christmas in the hospital after he was stabbed during a Christmas Eve robbery on Linden Avenue in Springfield.

The news is unsettling to nearby residents.

“It’s just crazy you can’t walk into your house with something nice without somebody wanting to take it from you ... it’s crazy,” neighbor Jonathan Stevens said.

The Springfield Police Division and medics were called to the scene at around 12:15 p.m. Monday. There, they found a man who suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. His name and condition were not available.

“He is reporting that he was outside the house and had just exited his vehicle,” Springfield police Sgt. James Byron said. “He was possibly carrying Christmas gifts and was robbed by an unknown male.

The suspect fled on foot, Byron said. Springfield police searched the area, but did not find him.

Springfield police declined to release a description of the subject, but are continuing their investigation into the incident.

“We have officers processing the scene and we have been in touch with our investigators and they are going to handle the scene,” he said.

Stevens said he’s concerned no one has been apprehended.

“I really hope the guy does get caught, you know? Left some kind of evidence because this is a tragedy and it needs to be brought to justice for sure,” he said.
