Two people were arrested and charged with endangering children after deputies raided their Springfield home and allegedly recovered drugs and a loaded handgun.
Earnest L. Foster, 38, 416 Scott St., pleaded not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court to charges that included trafficking in drugs, having weapons while under disability and endangering children.
Melissa M. Allender, 28, of the same address, was also scheduled to face a hearing Thursday morning in Springfield Municipal Court on two counts of child endangering but her case was continued, according to court records.
Court records say deputies executed a search warrant around 9 a.m. Wednesday at 416 Scott St. as part of a drug investigation.
They broke into a side door at the home after those inside allegedly refused to comply, according to court records. Deputies noticed two children, ages 2 and 3, in the living room after the adults were escorted outside. The report alleges the children were near a digital scale with white residue, sandwich bags and razor blades.
Investigators also allegedly found a loaded Cobra 380 handgun with one round in the chamber, along with more than $1,000 in cash, 24 grams of what appeared to be crack cocaine and a small bag of marijuana in a bedroom.

Allender told deputies she had recently lost her job and Foster allegedly had been selling drugs from the home with the children to pay for utilities, the report says.
Detectives also conducted surveillance on the home before the raid and allegedly saw several people entering and leaving, which deputies said was a sign of drug trafficking, according to court records.
