A Springfield man faces multiple child endangering charges after he allegedly left his children alone in a dirty home.
Timothy L. Rice, 27, plead not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court on Tuesday. Bond was set at $1,000.
Rice was also served an outstanding warrant for two counts of driving under suspension and one count of no operating license.
The office at Ronez Apartments, 1949 Wilkes Drive, called officers about 10:20 a.m. Monday morning after two children said they had just woken up and their dad and sister weren’t home, a police report says.
Officers searched the apartment on Primm Drive but no one answered. It had a strong smell of trash, holes punched in the wall and the toilets allegedly were full of feces, the report says. The sinks were also full of discolored water and the refrigerator allegedly had gnats in and around it, the police report says.
Rice told officers he was at another apartment, but allegedly later said he had gone to the 1000 block of Farlow Street to pick up some jeans, according to the police report.
The children were released to their grandmother.
