Springfield man accused of burglarizing home during funeral

A man, who a burglary victim said was supposed to be a pallbearer at her grandmother’s funeral, was arrested after he was accused of breaking into that victim’s home while she was attending that same funeral.

Blake Elliott, 19, was taken into custody after the burglary victim told deputies he broke into her home on May 3, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The victim told investigators Elliott was supposed to be a pallbearer at the funeral of the victim’s grandmother, but Elliott never showed up to the funeral.

According to the affidavit, the victim had only left her home for a little over two hours and came home to discover TVs, video game systems and other electronics were stolen.

Elliott was taken into custody after deputies spotted the vehicle that was in the driveway during the reported burglary and stopped it for several traffic violations, which was captured on surveillance video from a neighboring home.

Deputies were able to search Elliott’s apartment and located some of the stolen property.

Elliott is charged with burglary.
