Officers were called to the 1700 block of Rutland Avenue about 4 p.m. Monday in response to calls about a large fight.
CRIME: Warrant issued for pregnant Springfield mom after suspected OD
Dean Anderson, bloodied from the alleged fight, approached the officer and was placed in the squad car, police said.
Seeing Anderson in handcuffs, Smith, along with his mother, Nicole Swayne, approached the officer and were visibly angry, according to court records.
Smith yelled to the officer that they shouldn’t take Anderson to jail, police said. He allegedly punched the officer in the arm, court records say.
Smith allegedly continued to swing at the officer until the officer wrestled him to the ground and handcuffed him, police said.
Anderson also was charged with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.
Swayne also was charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
