The I-Team started tracking officer-involved shootings in 2014 after a series of high-profile police shootings here and across the country, including the fatal shooting of John Crawford in Beavercreek. The I-Team continued monitoring officer-involved shootings because no agency is responsible for tracking that information.

June 20, 2017: A Butler County sheriff's deputy shot and killed Jacob Faulkner after being dispatched on a report of an active shooter. More: 5 things to know about man fatally shot by Butler County deputy
July 4, 2017: Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper in Vandalia shot and killed Dana Dubose, who stabbed his wife to death in her Hamilton County home and a few hours later rammed the trooper's patrol car with his car and then exited the vehicle and lunged at the trooper with a knife. July 27, 2017: Kesharn K. Burney of Dayton was shot multiple times and killed by Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Bowling and Trotwood police detective Patrick Craunin in Harrison Twp., according to the sheriff's office. Burney, 25, was fired on after allegedly ramming a Trotwood officer with a vehicle as the officer and the deputy took part in a law enforcement "blitz" to catch suspected drug dealers. No charges were filed against the officers.
Aug. 27, 2017: A Kettering police officer shot and killed Jason Hoops, who had a firearm in his pocket when he was shot, according to dispatch traffic. More: Deadly Kettering police-involved shooting: What we know now
Sept. 4, 2017: Andy Grimm, a photographer for the New Carlisle News, was working on taking lightning pictures when a deputy performed a traffic stop nearby. Grimm was holding his camera and tripod and the deputy allegedly mistook them for a weapon. No charges were filed against Deputy Jacob Shaw. Grim received non-fatal injuries.
Oct. 20, 2017: Moraine police said two officers shot and killed Jamarco McShann, 23, of Dayton after McShann pointed a gun at police when they responded to a suspicious vehicle call, according to Police Chief Craig Richardson. When officers arrived to investigate the report of a suspicious vehicle, they found McShann asleep or unconscious in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with the car stereo on, Richardson said. Officers saw a handgun resting on his right thigh, the chief said.
Dec. 20, 2017: Robert Edwards was shot and killed by Miami Twp. police after officers said he refused to drop his weapon. The weapon was a pellet gun, officers later discovered. Officers had responded to a call around 12:15 a.m. that a man was making suicidal threats, "drinking and ready to pull the trigger," Miami Twp. police chief Ron Hess said. The call came from a woman who was not at Edwards' house and who reported contact with him via social media.
Feb. 5, 2018: An off-duty Miami Twp. police officer shot an armed man he saw attempting to carjack motorists after apparently holding up a Shell service station in Miamisburg. The 17-year-old male received non-fatal injuries.
April 3, 2018: A Miamisburg police officer shot a Dayton man wanted for an Indiana armed robbery at the Red Roof Inn on Byers Road in Miamisburg. The officer - who Police Chief John Sedlak identified only as "Officer B" - wounded Jeremy Watson, 38, "multiple" times in the left leg.
May 5, 2018: Kettering police said an unnamed officer investigating a violent confrontation in the 5100 block of Scarsdale Drive fatally shot Mitchell Simmons, 24, of Kettering late Saturday night. The officer heard a female in distress who needed assistance and forced entry into the apartment where the officer encountered Simmons with a gun, Kettering Police Chief Christopher Protsman said. The officer was not injured.
