Springfield man accused of having sex with teen

A Springfield man has been charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

James Mitchell Jr., 19 of Springfield, pleaded not guilty to a felony count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor Thursday in Clark County Municipal Court. According to Springfield police, Mitchell engaged in sexual intercourse with the teen back in June. The girl told officers that at first the sex was consensual, but “she told the suspect to stop and he wouldn’t,” according to court records.

A rape kit was collected and returned DNA evidence earlier this month identifying Mitchell as the alleged assailant, according to court records. When interviewed by officers, Mitchell said the sex was consensual, but admitted that he knew the girl was 15 at the time. He’s being held in the Clark County Jail on $5,000 bond.
