Police headlines: Super 8 worker charged with theft

SPRINGFIELD - A woman has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing cash from customers at the Super 8 motel at 2 W. Leffel Lane.

Jessica Conwell, 26, of Springfield, has been charged with one count of theft. According to police, Conwell told at least one customer the hotel’s credit card machine was not working and he would need to pay cash. Surveillance reportedly showed her removing his $70.19 charge from the computer. She also did not charge a different customer for a room, according to police.

At an arraignment Wednesday in Clark County Municipal Court, Conwell pleaded not guilty. She said she was “not a criminal” but declined to speak more about the case.

A manager at the Super 8 said Conwell was only employed for two days before she was arrested.
