Champaign County Sheriff Office deputies began their investigation when they were contacted by the boy’s mother, who said she feared for her son’s safety, according to an affidavit filed in the case.
“Upon speaking with the (mother), she provided numerous photographs of what appeared to be a large hand print on the right buttocks and backside of the right thigh area of the child,” the affidavit says. “(The woman) stated that this has occurred approximately five separate times within the past six months.”
The woman told authorities that White became angry Dec. 6 when the toddler touched an ornament on the Christmas tree and allegedly struck the child, leaving a red mark even though the child was wearing pajamas and a diaper, the affidavit says.
The woman showed law enforcement texts between her and White where she alleged that he made the marks. White denied doing so, according to the affidavit.
The woman alleged the latest incident took place on Christmas when the victim grabbed a screwdriver from the kitchen table that White had been using, according to the affidavit.
“(The woman) stated the defendant attempted to get the screwdriver from the victim, at which point the victim threw the screwdriver on the wooden floor,” the affidavit says. “(The woman) stated that the defendant began yelling at the victim and subsequently struck him on the right buttocks and backside of his right thigh area with his right hand, leaving a hand/fingerprint marks on the victim.”
The victim was wearing sweatpants and a diaper during that incident, the affidavit says.
