Springfield police said that Masters had an outstanding warrant for violating a protection order. When officers noticed him driving near Burt Street and East Pleasant Street on the evening of March 14, they tried to pull him over, but Masters took off.

Masters then led officers on a short chase through the city that reached speeds of 90 mph at times.

Masters crashed the car he was driving into a parked van at The Star pawn shop at the corner of East Main Street and South Fostoria Avenue.

Masters and another person in the car with him were taken into custody. When officers searched the two men, they found what appeared to be baggies of drugs and guns in the car.

A police report says the car that Masters was driving was previously reported as stolen to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The passenger, 26-year-old Austin J. Paul also was indicted by the grand jury for carrying a concealed weapon and improper handing of firearms in a motor vehicle.
