Trustees voted unanimously to fire the chief on four charges, including neglect of duty.
Leist was suspended in October for alleged misconduct stating he violated certain directives by allowing at least one employee to work without the proper training. An investigation also found the chief failed to keep and file the proper personnel records for the department, according to reports.
During the hearing Monday night Leist admitted to township trustees that he violated the directives out of misunderstanding.
“I wouldn’t do anything wrong to purposely deface my job, my position,” said Leist. “I just do what I can do.”
