Police said Jones was involved in a disturbance at a Covington apartment early Jan. 2 before fleeing that scene and returning to his home in Piqua. Police, hearing about the disturbance, saw Jones in his car on Andover Street in Piqua and approached him.
Jones was accused of driving off when a Piqua officer was reaching into the vehicle to retrieve an open liquor bottle. The officer received minor injuries, police said.
Jones was apprehended after a brief pursuit by Piqua police to the area of Washington and Farrington roads.
At sentencing, Jones told Judge Jeannine Pratt he did not want to attend the MonDay inpatient treatment program in Montgomery County. He instead asked to be released to community control with an order for treatment.
Pratt said she didn’t buy Jones’ claims the treatment program was too hard and too restrictive.
“You are 33 … and you are not ready to man up,” Pratt said. “Someone else is going to get hurt. My job is to protect the community and keep people like you in a proper place.”
Jones was sentenced to 12 months in prison on each of the charges and ordered to serve the sentences concurrently. He will receive credit for 69 days served in jail.
