UPDATE @ 11 a.m. (June 28)

Huber Heights police Chief Mark Lightner said police are asking for the public’s help in finding the whereabouts of Joshua Kiser, 20.

“We still do not know the whereabouts of Joshua Kiser,” Lightner said.

Lightner said the dark-colored Nissan that Kiser had fled in from the 4900 block of Leeper Drive was recovered at a Butler Twp. motel Monday night. Inside officers found blood and bullet holes.

It’s believed Kiser was wounded by Officer Aaron Harlow, who’s been with Huber police 15 years. Harlow is now on administrative leave, per protocol.

Lightner said Kiser was stopped by Huber police Monday for an outstanding warrant but did not comply and got in a vehicle to flee the area. Kiser reportedly drove the vehicle toward Harlow, causing the officer to fire his weapon.

Lightner said it’s not known yet how many rounds the officer fired. Lightner said the officer said Kiser was holding a gun while fleeing.

If you have information about Kiser or where he might be, contact Huber Heights police at 937-233-2080.

EARLIER REPORT

Police are looking for a wanted felon who may have been wounded by police gunfire as he sped away from an attempt by police to question him.

As of 7 p.m., Huber Heights police were not sure whether Joshua Kiser was, 20, wounded, but the dark colored Nissan he drove toward a police officer as he eluded capture was last seen headed south on Bellefontaine Road, Lt. Matt Dulaney said in a statement released to media.

The incident began just after 2:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Leeper Drive, where Huber Heights police had been sent in regard to a wanted person, Dulaney said in the statement. Police were operating on a report that Kiser, a convicted felon also wanted on two felony counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, was on Leeper Drive in a white Jeep.

When the officers attempted to speak with Kiser — who was outside the Jeep at this point — he jumped into the Nissan and drove toward one of the officers, Dulaney said.

That officer, whose name has not been released, fired at the vehicle as it traveled toward him.

Police Chief Mark Lightner said, “The officer on scene who fired the shot did say on the radio that he observed a weapon.”

Dulaney, in the statement, said, “There are also reports that Kiser was possibly armed, but that has not been confirmed.”

Two other people at the scene ran, but police located them on Nebraska Avenue and have detained them for questioning. A third person who remained on scene was detained as well. There was no word Monday night as to whether any of them will be detained further or whether they had been released.

According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, a caller to 911 from Coronette Avenue in Huber Heights told a dispatcher that a man who had been shot showed up at her residence and took a vehicle.

Dulaney was not available to answer questions Monday night, including the status of the officer who fired at Kiser or how many times that officer discharged their service weapon.

Clark County officials said Kiser has the word “savage” tattooed on his face and neck.
