Former WPAFB subcontractor sentenced for owning missile warning system

A former Wright-Patterson Air Force Base subcontractor was sentenced to more than two years in prison for a having firearm silencer and missile warning system, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio’s office.

Joel Benjamin Montgomery, 50, was sentenced to 33 months and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possessing a silencer not registered to him and having U.S. property worth more than $1,000.

During a search in October 2015 of the former WPAFB contract worker’s Yellow Springs home, agents found an AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System and Control Countermeasures Set Display Unit.

He kept equipment belonging to the U.S. for his personal use after his contract ended at the base, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio’s office.

Montgomery also had a firearm silencer that was not registered to him at his home in June 2015, according to court documents.
