Counterfeit money found at Springfield fast food restaurant leads to police investigation

Springfield police are investigating counterfeit money found at a local restaurant.

Law enforcement responded to the McDonald’s on East Main Street at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and met with an employee who told officers the employee found fake money.

“(She) stated they had received a fake $20 bill at some point in the evening with no possible suspect,” the report says.

The employee wasn’t able to tell officers who used the fake money, the report said, but the incident was likely to have occurred around 5 p.m.

Officers collected the fake money and are still investigating, the report says.
