Attempted murder suspect turns himself in to Springfield police

A man accused of attacking his wife in front of their four children Wednesday morning in North College Hill, Ohio, turned himself in to Springfield police several hours later.

Andre Jeter, 37, was arrested pending a charge of attempted murder in connection with the incident at his Foxwood Drive address.

A 12-year-old in the home called 911 at about 4:20 a.m. and said his father was attacking his mother, according to North College Hill Police Chief Gary Foust.

“Upon arrival we found the mother was semi-conscious in a puddle of blood,” Foust said.

She was slipping in and out of consciousness and had trouble speaking, but told the first responding officer that she couldn’t breath and she’d been stabbed, according to a police incident report.

Monica Jeter was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition and was on life support Wednesday morning, Foust said.

Andre Jeter fled the house by the time officers arrived and apparently drove north via an unknown route.

He stopped in Springfield at about 6:50 a.m. and asked someone how to get to the police station. He has no connection to the area, according to Springfield police Capt. Michael Hill.

“For whatever reason he stopped here,” Hill said.

Jeter said he’d done something wrong and needed to speak to police, Hill said. He then told officers he’d assaulted his wife and wanted to turn himself in.

Court records show Jeter was arrested Jan. 31 for a domestic violence incident at the same address. A temporary protection order was in place until his conviction in February. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but was given credit for 11 days served with the rest suspended and was placed on probation.

He was living in the home with his family as of Wednesday, Foust said.

The couple’s children were in the home at the time of the attack but were not injured and are now with family members, according to police.

Hamilton County Job and Family Services was notified of the situation, Foust said.

A knife was found in the residence, but Foust said it is unknown at this point if it was used in the attack.
