Alcohol suspected in fatal Champaign County crash

UPDATE @ 6:05 p.m. (July 7): Alcohol is suspected as a factor when two pickup trucks collided head-on early today in the 6000 block of Calland Road, southwest of West Liberty.

Larry Quiram, 60, of Bellefontaine, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 6000 block of Calland Road, according to Champaign County Coroner Dr. Josh Richards.

Quiram was headed north on Calland Road in his 1998 Ford F-150 when a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado went left of center and into his path, deputies said.

Christopher Jablonka, 34, of St. Paris, was driving the Silverado. He was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where he remained a patient.

Anita Morris, 59, a passenger in Quiram’s vehicle, and Jablonka’s passenger, 30-year-old Loren Wisma, were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Their conditions were not available.

The investigation is continuing and county Prosecutor Kevin Talebi will review the case for criminal charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

UPDATE @2:30 a.m.: One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in Champaign County.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Calland Road.


Deputies and medics were called to a major crash with multiple injuries early today near West Liberty, between Urbana and Bellefontaine.

A CareFlight medical helicopter was requested to the crash, reported around 12:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Calland Road.

There were several injuries, and at least one person trapped in the two-vehicle crash with one car reportedly catching fire, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
