15-year-old shot, killed in suspected robbery in Springfield; Multiple in custody after pursuit

A 15-year-old Springfield boy shot Wednesday afternoon during a suspected robbery later died of his injuries.

The Springfield Police Division was called around 4 p.m. Wednesday to the 500 block of Scott Street for a possible robbery with a gunshot victim, according to an incident report.

The victim was identified as Kamell Golden. He was taken by private vehicle to Springfield Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he died early Thursday of his injuries.

Springfield dispatchers confirmed that there was a police pursuit Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. related to the shooting, which ended around the intersection of East High Street and Raffensperger Avenue.

Multiple suspects were taken into custody, but dispatchers did not release their identities.

“The Springfield City School District was deeply saddened to learn of the death of student Kamell Golden, a freshman at Springfield High,” Superintendent Bob Hill said.

Springfield High School had counselors available Thursday for students and staff and will continue to provide these services Friday, he said.

“Wildcat Nation consists of nearly 8,000 students, but on a day like today, we are reminded that we are one family. A loss such as this is tragic and everyone will work through this very hard time together.

“We ask the SCSD community to join us as we continue to keep Kamell’s family and all who loved him in your thoughts as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”
