Chance for rain tonight; High temps in 30s later this week

Cloudy skies are expected this afternoon, but it should stay dry before rain returns later tonight.

The high for today will be in the low 40s, but later in the week the high temperature will hover at or below freezing, about 20 to 25 degrees below normal, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The chance for rain tonight is mainly before 10 p.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with an overnight low around 33 degrees.

It will be cloudy again Wednesday, with a high near 40 degrees and an overnight low around 28 degrees.

Thursday will be colder still with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 36 degrees.

A cold front will move into the region Thursday night, bringing an arctic air mass. Temperatures will drop to the low 20s.

The high temperature for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is expected below freezing in the low 30s with overnight lows in the teens.

During extreme cold, frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes.

Wearing multiple layers or loose-fitting clothes, as well as gloves and mittens, a hat, scarf and water-resistant-coat and boots will help prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

According to Kettering Health, symptoms of frostbite include:

  • Redness or pain in any skin area
  • Skin feeling unusually firm or waxy
  • Numbness

Signs of hypothermia include:

  • Shivering
  • Exhaustion or drowsiness
  • Confusion or memory loss
  • Fumbling hands
  • Slurred speech
  • Bright red, cold skin and low energy

If your temperature drops below 95 degrees, seek medical attention immediately.
