Severe weather threat increases Thursday

The Storm Prediction Center has increased the weather threat across the Miami Valley on Thursday to a “Slight Risk,” StormCenter 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to move into the region on Thursday morning and then shift off to the east.

“If clouds clear during the late morning and early afternoon to allow for heating, this will fuel thunderstorm development,” Elwell said.

A cold front will move into the area by evening hours, bringing with it more showers and storms. If there is enough instability, then a few storms could reach severe limits.

“The main threat from the storms will be from damaging winds and large hail,” Ewell said. “However, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.”
