Preparations to make at home before storms hit

As agencies such as Dayton Power and Light prepare ahead of the storms, it's important to make preparations around the house too.

Storm Center 7 Meteorologists say the biggest threat will be high winds that could move around furniture left outside. Large items could be blown into houses or nearby structures, causing damage.

“I make sure that any loose items around my house are cleaned up.. ... Nothing the wind pick up,” said David Long of Dayton. “This big window behind, if I believe there will be strong winds I will put wood over that.”

Officials recommend having an emergency kit prepared early with food, flashlights and batteries.
