Clear and cooler tonight; Less heat, humidity into holiday weekend

After a stormy start and dangerously hot middle to the week, the workweek will end with less heat and humidity into the Father’s Day and Juneteenth holiday weekend.

After a high temperature near 89 degrees, a front with much cooler, drier air is pushing in to the area, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

There will be relief from the heat and humidity tonight and into the weekend.

Overnight, it will be clear and cool, with an overnight low around 58 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 78 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will fall to a low around 51 degrees.

Father’s Day and Juneteenth will be sunny and near 79 degrees. Some clouds filter in Sunday night with an overnight low around 58 degrees.

The new workweek again will see dangerously high temperatures into the mid-90s.

The warming trend starts Monday, which will be mostly sunny with a high near 88 degrees.

Highs are projected to reach 94 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 92 degrees for Thursday. This is expected to prompt several more days of excessive heat watches or warnings and possibly air pollution alerts for the area. There also is a chance for afternoon showers on Wednesday and Thursday.
