KR boys golf dominates CBC tournament

ST. PARIS — Three Kenton Ridge High School boys golfers finished in the top five, and the team won the overall championship at the Central Buckeye Conference tournament for the second year in a row at Lakeland Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Chris Via fired a 74 and placed third. Clay Portz and Luke Schlicher both shot 76, tying for fourth.

Kenton Ridge won its second straight Kenton Trail Division title with a score of 308. The Cougars won the CBC in 2008 with a 309.

Tecumseh’s Kyle Furlong was second with a 73, and Scott Rogers placed eighth with a 76. The Arrows were second overall and second in the Kenton Trail Division with a 315. Furlong was the CBC Kenton Trail Player of the Year with 135.5 points.

Shawnee’s Clark Engle shot a 32 on the front nine and finished as medalist with a 72. Engle was second in the Kenton Trail with 130.5 points.

Zach Gerlach shot a 78 and Chad Gerlach added an 80 as Greenon won its second straight Mad River Division with a 325. This is the first time that the Knights have won the Mad River Division title and the Mad River Division tournament in the same year.

Urbana’s Derek Cobb was the CBC Mad River Division Player of the Year with 133 points.

Volleyball

Urbana improved to 9-2 on the season with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-13 victory over visiting Bellefontaine.

Kelsey Eastham and Katie Raterman both had six kills, Mackenzie Laase added 13 assists and Mary Hendricks had five kills, 10 digs and six aces for the Hillclimbers (5-0 CBC).

• Maddie Johnston led the offense with 12 kills and four aces, Rhianna Wyss added five aces and eight digs and Haley Banion dished out 14 assists as Southeastern (9-3, 6-2 Ohio Heritage Conference) defeated host Greeneview, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.

• Logan Shore had 10 kills and 21 digs, Megan Wagner added 26 assists and Lindsey Pollock had 13 digs as host Northeastern (8-5, 5-3 OHC) swept past Catholic Central 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.

• Chelsey Davis had 14 kills and six blocks, Sarah Flory added 13 kills and Rachel Moyer distributed 41 assists as host Tecumseh (9-4, 4-1 CBC) beat Northwestern, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-12.

• Darcie Zirkle had 11 kills, 12 digs and 15 assists, Cheyenne Heckman added 18 assists and 18 digs and Kaitlyn Ward spiked eight kills as host Graham (6-3, 4-2 CBC) defeated Shawnee, 25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19.
