Woman rescued after crash into Mad River off E I-70

UPDATE @ 8:25 p.m.

Rescuers said the woman was lucky she was not seriously injured tonight after she crash landed on an island in the middle of the Mad River.

The woman drove off eastbound Interstate 70 ahead of a curve, then veered into a grassy area, went through a fence and a stand of trees before she launched off a sandbar and went airborne over the river before she crashed onto the grass-covered island.

Firefighters used ropes to help bring a woman to shore after she was stranded on an island in the Mad River after she went off eastbound Interstate 70 into the water.

The woman, who was visibly shaken, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. She told police she suffered a medical issue before she went off the interstate at the 43 mile marker in Mad River Twp. in Clark County, south of Park Layne and east of Huber Heights.

The crash remains under investigation.

Rescuers were able to get a life vest to a woman stranded on an island in the middle of the Mad River.

A water rescue is underway tonight for a motorist who crashed into the Mad River.

According to initial reports, a woman was stranded on an island after crashing her car into the river. The driver went into the water off eastbound Interstate 70 at the 43 mile marker.
