Winter Weather Advisory in effect; worst conditions expected tonight

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday, issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The worst weather will be tonight. Snow will begin sticking to roadways and icy spots are likely to develop as temperatures continue to drop, the NWS said.

Logan County is under a Level 1 snow emergency until further notice because roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Also, roads may be slick and drivers are urged to use “extreme caution,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The Tuesday morning commute is expected to be dicey for some. Snow totals between 1 and 3 inches is expected for most of the region, with higher amounts possible for in some parts.

Snow showers are expected to continue into Tuesday morning until around 11 a.m. The day is expected to be windy and cold, with high temperatures in the mid-30s and a low of 22 degrees to 22 degrees. Skies will likely be cloudy. Snow showers could linger into Tuesday evening with less than half an inch possible.

On Wednesday, sun and clear skies are expected, though temperatures remain low with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the lower 20s.
