“Take nothing for granted because it’s been a season of surprises,” Kaine said.
“Democrats have a natural instinct to root for the underdog,” Kaine said.
UPDATE @ 1:05 p.m.
On taxes, Kaine says there would be no tax increases for those making under $250,000. Tax reductions for small businesses would be put in place.
“Folks at the top, those who have made an awful lot … will pay more because then we can put it into roads, bridges, ports, affordable college,” Kaine said.
Trump has a different tax plan — breaks for those at the top.
“People just like Donald Trump,” Kaine said. “A Trump-first plan, not a plan that puts working people first.”
On Trump’s 2005 remarks about women, Kaine said: “I don’t think Donald Trump can look at a woman and see an equal … he sees part human, part object. I resent it when he says that’s just locker room talk. This is the real Donald Trump but this is not real men.”
UPDATE @ 12:56 p.m.
Kaine said he will work to make voter registration automatic upon a person’s 18th birthday.
On trade, Kaine said he will be “tough on trade.” He said trade deals would only be approved if they increase American jobs and wages and are good for U.S. security.
UPDATE @ 12:50 p.m.
Kaine said America sets the standard for the democratic voting process.
“Donald Trump thinks we’re going to be better off if you divide people,” Kaine said. “We just got to be together, and that’s what this race is about, this vision of Stronger Together.”
When Hillary Clinton asked for Kaine to be VP, she cited his missionary and political work.
“’I want to measure success the right way, not the wrong way,’” Kaine said of what Clinton told him. “’Not a headline or sound bite … but is a classroom better … can a worker find it easier to pick up a few skills?’”
In Virginia where Kaine lives, he said some residents don’t see a clear path to success for themselves. Kaine hopes to create a better economy for the U.S.
Kaine said in their first 100 days, he and Clinton would make an investment in jobs, infrastructure, manufacturing, research, affordable college, and unions, among other items.
“We’re going to increase the minimum wage,” Kaine said, and affirm equal pay for women.
UPDATE @ 12:41 p.m.
Tim Kaine said he has a son in the military.
“I want a commander in chief I feel I can trust with my son’s life and I feel that way with Hillary Clinton,” Kaine said. “The prospect of Donald Trump … scares me.”
“Clark County you’re already voting,” Kaine said of early voting.
Kaine said Hillary Clinton has a good temperament, and he’s looking forward to the final presidential debate tonight.

UPDATE @ 12:32 p.m.
Ted Strickland, candidate for U.S. Senate, is speaking now.
Strickland said he’s known Kaine for years, and Kaine is as “good and decent” as any politician he’s known.
Earlier, Springfield Mayor Warren Copeland said: “I’ve heard Kaine describes himself as boring and I don’t find that true. He speaks straight to the issues and he speaks with a voice of conviction that’s centered in his own deep commitment to social justice. He talks about fairness, regardless of race or gender. And a clear commitment to those who are not getting ahead in this economy. These are the real issues of this campaign.”
