5 things to know about West Liberty

A student was injured on Friday morning during a shooting incident at West Liberty-Salem High School.

Here are five things to know about the school and the community:

1. School report card

The West Liberty-Salem Local district received a grade of B in the Performance Index Score in the latest school report card from the Ohio Department of Education. The district also received an A for its 4-Year Graduation Rate.

2. School population 

The enrollment at West Liberty-Salem Middle/High School is 610 students in grades 6 through 12, according to the Ohio Department of Education.

3. Village population

The village of West Liberty holds a population of 1,805, according to 2010 Census. The median age is 43.4 years, and median household income is $48,413.

4.  School construction

More than $14 million of projects were completed over the summer, causing the school to start classes almost a month later than other schools.

The project included renovations to the K-12 building and a 22,000-square-foot addition.

5. The village’s history stretches back to the early 1800s

The village was established in 1817 and is known as a tourist attraction for ancient caverns and caves.
